RICHMOND COIN CLUB

2011 GOALS

GOAL 1 – Research potential meeting sites. GEORGE MATZGANIS is leading this committee.    If you’d like to be a part of this search, please see him.    Some of the criteria for a new space includes:

·         The room size must be able to accommodate growth over the 60 regular meeting attendees we have now.   Therefore, a minimum of room size to accommodate 80+ members is required in order to be considered.  The location must provide enough tables and chairs to accommodate attendees. The room also needs to be private enough to allow for speakers, auctions, and security.

·         The location must guarantee that we can have our meeting on the same date and time – currently we meeting on the 1st Tuesday each month at 6:30p with access to the room for previewing auction items beginning by 5p.  We must also have access to the facility until 9:30---10 p.m. in order to have time to close out the auction and clean up.

·         Another requirement is that food be available for those wanting to have dinner/snack.

·         Currently we do not pay for our space at Roma’s.   Since we are a non-profit organization with little funds for operating, we prefer the same arrangement, but are open for a nominal charge if all other criteria is met and the club approves.

GOAL 2 – STRUCTURE A MONTHLY EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOR OUR CLUB MEETINGS SO THAT MEMBERS CAN BE NOTIFIED IN ADVANCE OF TOPICS AND PRESENTERS.

Criteria for this are:

·         15 minutes will be set-aside at each meeting for Education.   Each presenter needs to prepare in advance so that they allow time for questions and answers within this 15 minutes window.

·          “Outside Speakers” (meaning non-members) may be allowed a maximum time of 30 minutes on the agenda, and must be coordinated with the President in order to ensure there are no “club business” conflicts that would make the 30-minutes window difficult, e.g. elections for new officers or voting for a major decision needing discussion.

·         Some suggestions of topics were discussed were:

§         The Civil War Sesquicentennial (incl. Conf.& Virginia Currency, Token)

§         Aspects of World and/or Ancient Coin Collecting

§         Photographing Coins

§         It was suggested that we gather topics from the members at the next club meeting to add to this list.

·         In February John and Parry will meet and review all topics submitted and begin developing a schedule of topics and arranging the appropriate speaker for them.

GOAL 3 – UPDATE THE WEBSITE and ENSURE IT ALWAYS REFLECTS CURRENT CLUB ACTIVITIES, SUCH AS SHOWS, BUS TRIPS, EDUCATIONAL SPEAKERS/TOPICS, OFFICERS, BYLAWS, MINUTES, ETC.    Criteria for this include:

·         Arranging for a Webmaster Darrell Tyler has shown interest in being the Webmaster. I need to set him up and give him updates.

·         For now, the website will be our source for a Club “Newsletter”; this will save paper, printing, and postage and put the information in the hands of those most interested.

·         The website should also be a resource for links to numismatic news, such as  “spot” for Gold and Silver, ANA, VNA, Club Dealer websites, Coin World, and major shows, such as the Richmond, VNA, Baltimore Show

·         The website should also contain a current listing of upcoming club meeting dates and shows in Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, etc.

·         Find people willing to write articles that are numismatic related, timely with market conditions, and that could be posted on the website monthly or quarterly and also distributed as a handout at club meetings.

GOAL 4 – THE RICHMOND COIN CLUB WILL HAVE TWO (2) SHOWS PER YEAR.   ONE IN THE SPRING AND ONE IN THE FALL. Criteria for this include;

  • Every effort needs to be made to select a date that does not conflict with the Virginia Numismatic Association (VNA) Show in the fall.
